Pegasus is one of the largest footwear manufactures in
South East Asia. The group’s origins can be traced back to
1958 when the father of the current Chairman, established a
shoe manufacturing business in Taiwan.
Over this period of some 48 years, under an unbroken
dynasty of family ownership has instilled the importance of
providing continuity in its leadership, to promote an
enthusiastic attitude towards the business, whilst at the same
time demonstrate the importance of intelligent investment in
people and equipment.
This has allowed the business to grow into one of
leading factories in the region for Original Equipment
Manufacturing (OEM). This 48 year mission has resulted in a
factory facility of approx 500,000 square meters equipped with
40 production lines employing 20,000 workers able to produce
20,000,000 pairs of shoes annually!
Presently Pegasus manufactures shoes for a significant
number of international brand names including, Nike, K-Swiss,
Burton, Caterpillar, Nautica, Stride and LaCrosse to name but
a few, a veritable ‘Who’s Who’ of the industries leading
footwear customers.
Not resting on their laurels - a decision was made to
supplement the core business, so Pegasus implemented a
strategy of diversification over recent years resulting in a
number of diversified product lines producing, fashion casual
shoes, hiking boots, snow board boots and golf shoes along
with a number of specialized lines producing safety and fire
proof footwear.
This is where SPEEDWELL’s Footwear story really begins;
being one of the products where foresight and enthusiasm is
allowing SPEEDWELL to compete in established Motorsport
markets whilst at the same time, developing their product
design by calling on all the experience and resources of
Pegasus to inspire the development of these products into the
global car-culture market.
Prior to the launch of a car-culture and car-racing
inspired product line, a lot of thought and research was
invested into finding an appropriate name to market such
products. As usual Pegasus decided that investment in an
established icon would be the right tool to advertise their
commitment to this task. Eventually the SPEEDWELL brand was
acquired as it brought together the Speedwell tradition of
creating high quality progressive products for the motorsport
world, whose name has been synonymous with quality and style
since the 1950’s when it produced custom race engines. The
ambition of Pegasus is to create the same commitment to
quality and style in footwear, in order to meet the demands of
the discerning racing driver and street wise car culture
enthusiast.
